    Toys Evolve with Children

Almost all toys have an age range, but we seldom follow it. Little R has toys that are 3+ or even 5+ at 2 years. What we observed early on is that as kids grow up they find different ways to play, explore and learn with the toy. Let me explain what I mean. Little R has a musical train that can be dragged around with animals popping out of the top of it. This was one of the first toys she got from her aunt at 6 months. She was just sitting up at the time and she would hold on to the animals and lift herself up into…

    Our Conversations…

At 2 years, Little R is a feast to talk to. Here are a few snippets from the last couple of days. Last night Little R was terribly hyper. Though she kept yawning, her eyes had become tiny and it was past her bedtime, she had no inclination to go to bed. So I offered to read a few stories to her. Me: Little R, I will read cluck a doodle moo if you get into your sleepwear. Little R: Sari (OK in kannada) and lifts her hand, allowing me to get her into the sleepwear. Me: Good girl! Little R: I am a good girl right? So amma has…

    TWO!!

Happy Birthday Little R! Yep, thats right! Little R just turned two. Every time I step into January, the first thought that comes to mind is how fast time is flying, how soon my little burrito is growing up and how excited I was this time, 2 years ago waiting to meet my little girl. I think ours is going to be a household where Little R gets to listen to her birth story every year on her birthday. I cant bring myself to verbally describe how incredible the past 2 years have been with Little R and how an incredible little girl she is turning into. So here are…

    School Time at 20 Months!

And so, with a lot of apprehension, anxiety, and excitement, we made up our mind that little R had to start daycare, given the situation that I started work. The daycare is affliated to my work place and I have a video surveillance access to her class and I can watch my child at any given time. Despite all these luxuries that any top rated daycare can provide, it was a huge step that both little R and us as parents were taking. Even though I started work almost 6 months ago, in the back of my mind I knew she was happy and well taken care of by her…

    Back to Work

Yes, Thats right. After 16 most beautiful months of being together with the little one 24 by 7, I have now returned to the corporate world. And it is easily the toughest decisions I have made in my life.. As I drag myself to work each day, I have this unsettling thought of where did those magical months go? How did time fly by so fast? Why am I not as excited as I used to be about working in a multicultural corporate? Probably because I leave my heart behind at home where it is racing up and down the stairs, playing tirelessly with the toys, uttering words I cannot make any sense of and keeping the happiness quotient at home…

    No No No No No

Up until 2 weeks ago, The little One (TLO) didnt know how to say No. She only knew YES and the forward headshake. (which we loved) Even the No’s were Yes in her language. The little one picked up her first ‘No’ phrase from her grandmom. She would pluk out my mom’s spectacles at the slightest of chance she got. To which my mom would respond with ‘No No No No No’. And TLO dutifully picked it up. When she was still trying to master the ‘No’ phrase, she would go to my mom and tease my mom or crawl towards restricted areas to which my mom would run behind…

    An afternoon well spent

My sweet little one is catching on a cold. It is the second one in the past one month. So all she wants to do is snuggle up and sleep on me. As bad as I feel for her, I quietly enjoyed the smell of her fresh baby skin, the sweat in her hair, the rhythm of her tiny breaths, those tiny arms and legs wrapped around me.. ah bliss! I just sat there for hours. The chores could wait, the work can wait. For those few hours I just enjoyed snuggling up with my little one and just be present in the moment. When Jinku was born, she seemed…

    MJ is 9 Months New

Here are some snippets from the past 1 month: MJ is a cruiser! Both Land and Air.. and let me explain what I mean. She crawls all around the house and is my constant shadow/companion throughout the day. She gets on to her all force but when it is time to move forward, she drags her body forward.. she is still trying to figure her way out with the classic crawl position. Given the carpeted floor, I was told that it is difficult on babies to move as conveniently as on hard wood or mosaic but she moves in a jiffy! Infact, she can even crawl faster than me. Especially…

    6 Months New!

It is impossible to believe that my little one is already 6 months new! Yes Newness.. Everyday is a new day with new little tricks, new acrobats, new sounds, new displays of the rapid development, new tantrums, you name it. 6 months ago, I wished there was a handbook for babies and now I can read her like a book! I know her every move, her every look, her every cry (yes the fake ones too 😉 and her every likes and dislikes. She beams with happiness! Not does she keep the happiness quotient of everyone around her at home high, she also influences passers by on the street 😀…
