    Bega Bega Bega

Which translates to hurry up, hurry up, hurry up. That’s all I hear myself saying these days. Since I started my new job (yep, started a couple of weeks ago.. Great company, awesome people and we will get to that some other time) I also have a longer commute and an early start to the day. As a result, the tiny tot has a shift in her schedule too and is now an early to bed and early to rise kinda person. Given that she has preferences about the way certain things need to be done, it just takes so much longer to get the basic day to day activities…

    Happiness is…

Having Two little arms wrapped around me Cuddling with my Two year old and falling asleep for an impromptu nap Two people who didn’t know what they were missing out on until Little R made us parents Sipping my evening tea and watching the Two of them (daddy-daughter) play Waking up at 2 AM to realize I still have a couple more hours to get out of bed Pushing myself to workout everyday and losing those stubborn 2 pounds Jumping way too much with my daughter, falling down and breaking into splits of laughter Two of us, snuggling up and watching a lovely movie after many many months!

    Toys Evolve with Children

Almost all toys have an age range, but we seldom follow it. Little R has toys that are 3+ or even 5+ at 2 years. What we observed early on is that as kids grow up they find different ways to play, explore and learn with the toy. Let me explain what I mean. Little R has a musical train that can be dragged around with animals popping out of the top of it. This was one of the first toys she got from her aunt at 6 months. She was just sitting up at the time and she would hold on to the animals and lift herself up into…

    Our Conversations…

At 2 years, Little R is a feast to talk to. Here are a few snippets from the last couple of days. Last night Little R was terribly hyper. Though she kept yawning, her eyes had become tiny and it was past her bedtime, she had no inclination to go to bed. So I offered to read a few stories to her. Me: Little R, I will read cluck a doodle moo if you get into your sleepwear. Little R: Sari (OK in kannada) and lifts her hand, allowing me to get her into the sleepwear. Me: Good girl! Little R: I am a good girl right? So amma has…

    TWO!!

Happy Birthday Little R! Yep, thats right! Little R just turned two. Every time I step into January, the first thought that comes to mind is how fast time is flying, how soon my little burrito is growing up and how excited I was this time, 2 years ago waiting to meet my little girl. I think ours is going to be a household where Little R gets to listen to her birth story every year on her birthday. I cant bring myself to verbally describe how incredible the past 2 years have been with Little R and how an incredible little girl she is turning into. So here are…

    Pretend Plays

Little R is a huge fan of pretend plays these days. She loves shopping at Target since she has access to the hundreds of toys nicely placed on the aisles, welcoming her to grab whichever interests her. And she loves the whole billing process in particular. So I made her a DIY shopping cart and I place all the veggies and fruits in the house on the table, couch etc, to represent multiple aisles. Now the whole living room becomes her shopping arena and she goes around, pushing the shopping cart and filling it with the veggies that she wants to buy. I have also given her one of my…

    School Time at 20 Months!

And so, with a lot of apprehension, anxiety, and excitement, we made up our mind that little R had to start daycare, given the situation that I started work. The daycare is affliated to my work place and I have a video surveillance access to her class and I can watch my child at any given time. Despite all these luxuries that any top rated daycare can provide, it was a huge step that both little R and us as parents were taking. Even though I started work almost 6 months ago, in the back of my mind I knew she was happy and well taken care of by her…

    The First Family Biking Experience

Way back in 2008 I had gone on a vacation to Germany with friends and one of the places we visited was the black forest area. Black Forest is like the opening scene from the ‘Sound of Music’ where you will see lush green mountains rolling one after the other. It was a Sunday afternoon and we were sitting on the grass, just soaking it all in when I saw a family of 5 – A dad, mom, one boy and 2 little girls rolling down one of the hills on their bikes! It was one of the prettiest sights I had ever noticed. The pretty wooden picnic baskets, the 2 little pink bikes, the large hat the mom was wearing, the nice…

    Back to Work

Yes, Thats right. After 16 most beautiful months of being together with the little one 24 by 7, I have now returned to the corporate world. And it is easily the toughest decisions I have made in my life.. As I drag myself to work each day, I have this unsettling thought of where did those magical months go? How did time fly by so fast? Why am I not as excited as I used to be about working in a multicultural corporate? Probably because I leave my heart behind at home where it is racing up and down the stairs, playing tirelessly with the toys, uttering words I cannot make any sense of and keeping the happiness quotient at home…

    No No No No No

Up until 2 weeks ago, The little One (TLO) didnt know how to say No. She only knew YES and the forward headshake. (which we loved) Even the No’s were Yes in her language. The little one picked up her first ‘No’ phrase from her grandmom. She would pluk out my mom’s spectacles at the slightest of chance she got. To which my mom would respond with ‘No No No No No’. And TLO dutifully picked it up. When she was still trying to master the ‘No’ phrase, she would go to my mom and tease my mom or crawl towards restricted areas to which my mom would run behind…
